Welcome message from our President

Welcome to the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA), a vibrant community of scholars from across the world who share a common goal in advancing the sociology of sport.

As I begin my term as President, I am delighted to introduce the newly elected members for 2024-2027: Billy Graeff as General Secretary, Sun-Yong Kwon as VP Conferences, and Mark Falcous as Treasurer. Our Executive Board is rounded out by Hélène Joncheray and Emmanuelle Tulle reprising their roles as VP International Relations and VP Communications, respectively. Mike Sam will also continue to support the new Board as Past President – Mike, thank you for your steady stewardship of the Association as President of the ISSA from 2020 to 2023. The ISSA is well positioned for future success with this wonderful mix of new and experienced energy and insights. Feel free to contact any member of the Executive Board using the contact boxes on our Board page.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Professors Christine Dallaire (Past-President), John Horne (Treasurer), and Brent McDonald (VP Conferences) as their years of service to the ISSA Executive Board ends. Their dedication to our scholarly community and careful efforts in their roles on the Board over many years have enhanced the Association immeasurably.

I am privileged to be able to engage with and work alongside colleagues who share my vision of ISSA as an inclusive global scholarly community. On behalf of the 2024-2027 Executive Board, we are looking forward to collaborating with you to further enhance the reach and accessibility of our organization.
